Chain resolves heated debate with council amid concerns over antisocial behaviour
London’s late-night revellers will be able to stop off at Greggs for bacon baps and coffee as late as 2am, after the bakery chain fought off claims that the “mega-Greggs” would become a hotspot for crime.
The flagship store will open until 2am on Thursday to Saturday and can sell its signature bakes to late-night Londoners.

The bakery chain said its total sales grew by 17% over the year to date, compared with the same period in 2022.
LONDON (Reuters) -Britain's Greggs expects further growth this year as its range of baked goods and new products keep it on track to meet forecasts despite tighter household budgets. Greggs' profit is predicted to rise 10% this year even as disposable incomes are squeezed by high inflation, with the company's value offering plus new products such as chicken goujons and its vegan Mexican chicken-free bake keeping customers spending. Underlying sales across Greggs' 2,300 outlets climbed by 15.7% in the 10 weeks to May 13, which it expects to normalise over the year as it moves beyond comparisons against COVID-affected periods early last year.
The Department for Transport said it will enable the same volume of goods to be carried on fewer journeys.

Britain’s biggest bakery chain says it expects cost inflation of between 9% and 10% this year
The cost of living squeeze has led more consumers to rely on low-cost meals.
The bakery chain revealed big expansion plans and said there is a “clear opportunity” to have significantly more than 3,000 shops across the UK.
The bakery and fast-food chain revealed it wants to grow to have more than 3,000 stores across the UK ‘in time’.
LONDON (Reuters) -British bakery and fast food chain Greggs forecast more growth this year, as its value products, longer opening hours, loyalty app and new menu options like hot wraps and loaded wedges help drive sales despite squeezed consumer incomes. Over the first nine weeks of 2023, underlying sales rose 19%, compared with the same period a year earlier when the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was rampant, said Greggs, adding that it expected growth to slow over the year. That still puts the group, which trades from over 2,300 outlets across Britain, on course to lift profit by about 9% this year, said Chief Executive Roisin Currie, even though household budgets across the country are shrinking.
