Exclusive - Iberdrola demanded change at Siemens Gamesa as problems mounted

Spanish utility Iberdrola (IBE.MC) used its influence to change the management of Siemens Gamesa (SGREN.MC) on Friday after the wind-power joint venture suffered two profit warnings in less than three months. Germany's Siemens (SIEGn.DE) has a controlling stake of 59 per cent in Spanish-based Siemens Gamesa but Iberdrola, with an 8 percent stake, has a say in some governance matters thanks to a deal signed when Siemens Wind agreed to merge with Gamesa last year.

ScottishPower Renewables gets planning approval for 1.2 GW offshore windfarm

ScottishPower Renewables, part of Spanish utility Iberdrola (Amsterdam: ID6.AS - news) , has received planning approval from the British government for a 1.2-gigawatt offshore wind farm off the coast of Norfolk, the firm said on Monday. The so-called East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm will need 172 wind turbines and deliver enough power to meet the annual demand of almost one million homes, the company said. Britain's regulatory framework requires that offshore wind developers enter qualified projects into a renewable support scheme, called contracts-for-difference (CfD), where qualifying projects are guaranteed a minimum price at which they can sell electricity.

Spain's Iberdrola flags lower profit growth in 2017

Spanish utility Iberdrola (Amsterdam: ID6.AS - news) on Wednesday said core earnings this year may fall short of its annual growth target of at least 6 percent over the 2016-2020 period for the second year in a row. Europe's second-biggest power company by market value affirmed this medium-term objective in a presentation to investors but it did not give a specific figure for 2017 and instead said core earnings and net profit would be in the mid-single digits.
