European media group Mediahuis has agreed to buy Ireland's largest newspaper group, Independent News & Media, for 145.6 million euros (£125.6 million) in its first major deal outside Belgium and the Netherlands. INM, which owns the Irish Independent and Sunday Independent titles, Ireland's top selling daily and Sunday newspapers respectively, said on Tuesday its board would unanimously recommend the offer of 10.5 cents per share to its shareholders. Irish court appoints inspectors to Ireland's largest newspaper group

Ireland (Other OTC: IRLD - news) 's High Court on Tuesday approved an application by the state's corporate watchdog to appoint inspectors to investigate potentially unlawful conduct at Independent News & Media (LSE: INM.L - news) (INM), the country's largest newspaper group. Ireland's Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement (ODCE) made the request in March following an investigation into issues at INM, including allegations that journalists' data might have been accessed for an "improper purpose". INM had opposed the application and had also said it was prepared to take action if there was any wrongdoing.
