Dog days of August. But September is coming and it is usually bad for tech. There have been some bullish Septembers—1996 and 2019 come to mind—but not many. 500 looks pretty good by recent history and weak hands should get out while getting is good.

So what's the story? Is there, or ISN'T there a world wide chip shortage? Will chip makes need to invest in capacity and new technology for the next generation of cars, electronics, computers, networks, or NOT? Do we or don't we have massive supply chain bottlenecks to overcome?

The first beneficiaries of this wave are the chip equipment companies, LRCX, KLAC, AMAT ...

Seems clear to me. But the market is not showing any resolve on this outlook. It runs for the exits on the flimsiest of premises.

Looks like MU's comment about cutting back on investment is hurting LRCX and AMAT today

Mind boggling to me how little the Semi analysts really know about the business these days!
All the news about funding from the chips act is really misunderstood. I.E. Micron reportedly building “mega fab” in US somewhere. That sounds great! But, the majority of rare earth materials and gases needed to run such a fab come from outside the US. China, Russia, Ukraine and a few others are major suppliers of these very critical resources.
Analysts and the current administration are absolutely clueless and fail to recognize the real threat that is looming.

Can somebody explain to my why this is down after reporting beat/raise quarter across the board?

Look, I get why this stock is down right now.....MU basically said they are cutting their CAP EX by a lot short term.....but long term, every single chip company is going to start investing in the US, and also in Europe because having Chip production within your borders is going to be a National Security issue.....so there will be a massive amount of new chip facilities put into place around the world, and LRCX and AMAT will probably go up 4 to 5X in the next 3 to 5 years....If China invades Taiwan and stops TSMC production, it will be even sooner.....so just keep reinvesting your Div and buy more at lower pricing if you can, I will.....

LRCX executive management is doing a stellar job considering the current climate. Despite the current administrations actions to curtail technological progress. The recent bill passed to support the chip industry is riddled with red tape. Ramping production of the Malaysia facility is a clear indication of the future of customer support. Stay long and prosper!

WSJ articles today report that 1. Samsung plans 11 new fabs in Texas; and 2. chip inventories rising.
