FTSE 100 dips on sluggish euro zone PMI, Unilever sparkles

The FTSE 100 was down 0.2 percent and the FTSE 250 dropped 0.1 percent. FTSE 100 squeezes out gains; ConvaTec drags midcaps

The FTSE 100 added 0.1 percent, outperforming its U.S. and European peers, though the FTSE 250 was down 0.4 percent as ConvaTec tanked after reporting what its CEO called "disappointing results". Investors also kept an eye on the ongoing parliamentary turmoil over Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plan. "The fact that there will now be another meaningful vote on Feb. 27 has taken the pressure off today's vote ... but Theresa May's 'my deal or no deal' doesn't look like it will make it into next month," London Capital Group analyst Jasper Lawler said.

Moneysupermarket compares candidates to succeed chairman

The price comparison site Moneysupermarket Group has become the latest big British company to begin searching for fresh leadership as new rules loom that will curtail chairs' status as independent directors. Sky News has learnt that Moneysupermarket, which also owns the MoneySavingExpert operation set up by the entrepreneur Martin Lewis, has hired headhunters to identify a successor to Bruce Carnegie-Brown. Mr Carnegie-Brown has chaired the company since April 2014, but has served on the board for nearly nine years, including an earlier stint as a non-executive director.

Just Eat shares jump as investors embrace growth drive

Investors gave their backing to Just Eat's (JE.L) global growth drive on Thursday, sending its shares higher even though new investments in Brazil and Mexico will weigh on the takeaway group's full-year core earnings. Just Eat has grown rapidly since it floated in 2014 but it spooked investors this year by repeatedly hiking the amount it needs to spend to fend off rivals Deliveroo and Uber Eats in markets stretching from Canada to Australia and the UK. On Thursday it said investments in Brazil and Mexico would push 2018 underlying core earnings to the lower end of the 165 million pound to 185 million pound range, despite revenue forecast at the top end of a 740 million pounds to 770 million pound range.
