The FTSE 100 edged 0.2% lower, with losses spread across most sectors, and the FTSE 250 midcap index was down 0.4%. The oil and gas sector was a bright spot, with heavyweights Shell and BP gaining on the back of a jump in crude prices after a report that U.S. President Donald Trump had approved military strikes against Iran then pulled them back.
