$NILSY https://www.nornickel.com/news-and-media/press-releases-and-news/nornickel-received-permission-to-retain-its-depository-receipts-programme/ This is great news for NILSY shareholders they received permission to retain their ADR's for 1 year. I contacted NILSY yesterday and they responded today, sharing the press release and advising to contact bank of new york in case I wanted to convert my adr's to ordinary shares. I will contact Bank of New York to understand the process and fees and I also asked the IR department at NILSY what happens to the dividends of the ADR holders during this year. I will report back my findings. Good luck longs.

    $OGZPY conversation
sent an email to Gazprombank 3 days ago, no replies...

    "Dear Gazprombank,

I am a Gazprom ADR ($OGZPY) holder, Gazprombank would provide a Type “C” securities owner account for receiving the Shares converted from ADR ($OGZPY) and a Type “C” bank account for crediting dividends paid on the Shares.

I am also holding other Russian ADRs such as Mobil'nye Telesistemy PAO ($MBT), and Norilsk Nickel Mining ($NILSY).

Would this Type “C” securities account be able to receive Shares converted from $MBT and $NILSY as well?"

The sanctions are for Putin's Russia. As long as Putin is at the helm, the sanctions on stocks will hold. A ceasefire or even a peace treaty won't cut it this time. Russia is no longer a player at the table of the civilized world. Pausing or ending war in Ukraine won't end the sanctions. Don't look for this to trade for years to come in the USA.

Russia's Norilsk Nickel (OTCPK:NILSY), the world's biggest palladium and nickel producer, reiterated its full-year production guidance and said its operations remain uninterrupted, indicating that sales have not yet been hurt by the war.

In its first update since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Nornickel said its Q1 nickel production rose 10% Y/Y to 51.5K metric tons due to the recovery of its two mines after flooding in 2021, palladium production fell 8% to 706K oz, platinum output slid 12% to 163K oz from a higher than normal level a year ago, and copper output remained stable at 91.4K tons.

The company plans to produce as much as 215K tons of nickel, 2.7M oz of palladium and 667K oz of platinum this year.

I bought this @ 3 on the US ADR and my account is showing 14.89 not sure where they are getting the price. I am unable to sell as it is halted. I hope they resolve this issue and Russia is allowed to trade its stocks in the US again. The conflict needs to end. That being said Russian people and there companies are not our enemy and should be able prosper. Not the GOV but the people of Russia . Plus if I am being honest thats a huge win for me if the stock re-opens. Full-Discolsure. No one supports this war but people need to work and operate and company like Norilisk are important for so many reasons

Today Norilsk shares (GMKN.ME on Yahoo) closed at 21,100 rubles at the MOEX. At today's exchange rate of 80:1 RUB:USD, they closed at $263. Each NILSY represents 1/10th of a share, so NILSY's equivalent price would be $26.30 today.

The irony is delicious, of a Chinese gambler breaking the 145 year-old LME, under pressure from the new Chinese owners and American prime brokers, all while the Anglosphere fuels a run-up in nickel prices via its crude sanctions against Russian companies.

Don't sell your shares anytime soon into this illiquidity! The company had a huge profit margin, even better now.

"the market has remained in near-paralysis, even on days when prices have been trading within the 15% daily limit. Fewer than 210 lots had traded in the first hour after the market opened at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, down nearly 60% from the 90-day average for that time of day before this month’s trading halt."

"The increasingly urgent question among core users is whether the 145-year-old exchange is still a viable mechanism for industrial companies seeking to hedge their price risk."

So, if someone is short here they have big gains on paper, but can't close out the position? Does this mean that the short is on the hook for short interest charged by broker + dividends (if any) paid by the company? I wonder how long until buys are allowed?

The wildest swing of NILSY and other Russian stocks prices (USA, London) has been caused by massive share off-loading by institutions because of ethical consideration and sanction. This is just one side of the coin. The other side of the coin is that Russia Stock Exchanges are closed for three days, and no sign of when it will open again. Those Russian stocks are also traded in their home country's exchanges. The share prices traded in their home country provide an anchor to their foreign ADR shares. Now, the foreign ADR shares have been losing anchors. Russia ETF RSX is managed by VanEck Vectors. They say they stopped actively creating shares for RSX to provide share price tracking and liquidity because Russia Stock Exchanges are closed and there are no reference prices. So that's why you see dramatic volatility. Russian government is preparing a market protection plan with a large amount of money to stabilize their home country's share prices. Once the Russian Stock Exhanges are re-opened with the market protection plan and prohibition of foreign investor sell-off, the volatility and price tracking will be improved.

With nickel and palladium pricing and demand rising by the day, I couldn't resist buying NILSY. I understand that it is based in Russia but it's product is sorely needed for EV batteries and the move away from fossil fuel dependence. Unlike the Russian financial sector, this one is critical for the rest of the world. At 2005 prices, I am willing to take the risk of being blocked from trading till more clarity comes from the war.
