PostNL said the agreement with the Bond van Post Personeel and CNV trade unions, covering nearly 16,500 mail deliverers, included a structural pay rise of 4% effective from Jan. 1 2022, to be paid retrospectively as soon as the agreement is final, and a further 4% hike on Jan. 1 2023. "Rising prices are hitting our people where it hurts and we feel that raising their pay is an appropriate response under current conditions," PostNL's Mail in the Netherlands Director Bob van Ierland said in a statement. The company said this agreement would take the compensation for starting postal workers above the legal minimum wage.
The company, which delivers parcels and letters across Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, expects normalised earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of 170 million to 210 million euros ($179 million-$221 million) in 2022. It had earlier forecast a normalised EBIT in the 210 million-240 million euro range. "PostNL's 1Q22 results missed consensus estimates on all fronts," KBC Securities analysts said in a note.
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) -Dutch mail and packages company PostNL on Tuesday said that two of its nine hubs in Belgium remain closed after police raids as part of an ongoing investigation into labour practices. Belgium's Minister for Public Enterprises said in a statement that it appeared from the raids, in which several people were arrested, that "infringements may have been committed". "I cannot and do not wish to comment on the case itself, it is up to the courts to do their job," Petra De Sutter's statement said, adding that all postal operators in Belgium should offer their workers permanent contracts.
