PTR down because ex-dividend date was 6/16. Lower price reflects dividend to be paid out.

For those FUDing PTR and Chinese oil stocks with COVID lockdown and geopolitical risk for supporting Russia, consider my argument: Covid lockdown has been opening up and China has to open up more to spur growth in economy. So Covid lockdown has passed the worst case and economy will begin to start up again although it'll take several months to start making a difference. Furthermore, China has to ease regulating tech companies as they need to grow economy back. Lastly, there is v little geopolitical risk as no nation is going to sanction China for fear of worsening their own supply chain pain. As long as China doesn't overtly support Russia, nations are going to look the other way. Lastly, China is buying huge amount of oil from Russia at significant discounts. This means much higher profits for Chinese oil companies. When China economy starts back up, it also means more profits for Chinese tech companies. We will find out in a few months when these companies start announcing earnings.

Demand is coming back faster than supply and we're going to need more supply to meet that demand," said Phil Flynn, senior analyst at Price Futures Group in Chicago.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) said in its monthly report that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies, known as OPEC+, would need to boost output to meet demand set to recover to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2022.

"OPEC+ needs to open the taps to keep the world oil markets adequately supplied," the Paris-based energy watchdog said.

An oil company with a solid dividend yield, good financial health and a healthy payout ratio. What more can I say... I like what I see

OPEC+ abandoned its meeting without a deal, tipping the cartel into crisis and leaving the oil market facing tight supplies and rising prices.

Several days of tense talks failed to resolve a bitter dispute between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, delegates said, asking not to be named because the information wasn’t public. The group didn’t agree on a date for its next meeting, according to a statement from OPEC Secretary-General Mohammad Barkindo.

The most immediate effect of the breakdown is that, unless an agreement can be salvaged, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies won’t increase production for August. That will deprive the global economy of vital extra supplies as demand recovers rapidly from the coronavirus pandemic.

It's a mystery to me how this stock can continue to decline when oil is steady at $70 per barrel. This company is going to print money. And the market is shrugging it off. Just weird.

What is the Market cap of this company?
Nasdaq has it like $89B and Yahoo has it like $160B......They both can't be right.

The market going Risk-Off again should be constructive for oil stocks.

Back in 2002, Warren Buffet made an investment in PetroChina. Buffet, ever the value investor, saw PetroChina, with its oil reserves and business fundamentals, to be a great company. Well, this investment returned multiple times for Buffet when he sold his stake a few years later.
As you can see from the chart of PetroChina's stock price, after Buffet made his investment, PetroChina went on a sky rocket ride upwards all the way to $262. At this point, PetroChina became the largest company in the world.
Well, the price has since been on a multi-year decline. It is now right back to the level where Buffet originally made his investment.

why PTR is dropping along with other Chinese stocks? the oil price is actually going up today.

    $PED conversation
$PED $1.4 now. US oil refineries will not want to sell crude below $105 to Europe but China, India, and Indonesia will be enjoying discounted Russian oil at 80$. Additionally, Oil Inventories Fell by 3 Million Barrels Last Week: API. So just add your position whenever the price is down.

This seems to be particularly bullish for $PTR and $PTR-A

PTR has a 9% dividend, 0.36 Price/Book Value and 1900% earnings growth next year. Does anyone else see a massive opportunity?
  • M
At $44, PTR is trading where it was with oil at $50. Thats a joke, especially because PTR is getting a great deal on that crude from Russia. Their margins are going to be huge.

The market is being short-sighted if you ask me.

    Very Nice

PetroChina (PTR) could be a solid choice for investors given its recent upgrade to a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy)
