MILAN (Reuters) -UniCredit Chief Executive Andrea Orcel on Thursday said his bank was not buying shares in Popolare di Sondrio, dismissing as "noise" a newspaper report about UniCredit being the lender behind stake-building in the smaller rival. Asked in an interview with Bloomberg television in Davos if UniCredit was interested in Popolare di Sondrio, Orcel said: "We are interested in everything at the right price." Daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported that a U.S. investment bank had been building up to a 10% stake in Popolare di Sondrio to allow an Italian lender to become a significant shareholder, with UniCredit being the leading candidate.
A large U.S. investment bank is considering building up a 10% stake in Italy's Banca Popolare di Sondrio, Il Sole 24 Ore newspaper reported on Thursday, without citing sources or naming the investor. The move would also pave the way for the entry of UniCredit in the group's shareholding, the newspaper said, without giving further details and adding that UniCredit declined to comment. Banca Popolare di Sondrio declined to comment on the report.
Gruppo San Donato (GSD) has asked Morgan Stanley to examine strategic options for Italy's largest private healthcare group, including an initial public offering or the sale of a minority stake, two sources close to the matter said on Tuesday. Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Tuesday that the group's sole shareholder, the Rotelli family, was considering the sale of a 20% stake or a listing. GSD posted revenues of 1.88 billion euros ($2.06 billion) in 2022, up 7% from a year earlier, with a core profit of around 155 million euros.
