Jeff Poulton's departure raises a potential internal issue. The Baxter acquisition was a failure that precluded the company to get into the hemophilia market. There's internal conflict in acquisition targets given the limited cash to finance an acquisition. A mix of debt and equity currently be discussed. BMRN certainly in SHPG crosshairs but at a hefty premium. Do they buy ONCE with a less diversified portfolio to get back into hemo A?

It seems like the pharma companies that have become highly leveraged like Teva and shpg are getting pounded because they are highly leveraged. This is especially painful for shpg as it keeps hitting 52 week lows at a slow strangling pace. I don't see any buyouts because of their high debt. They just need to pay off as much debt as possible and focus on operations. Hard to tell how low this can go. Kind of scary. Looks like some major long term support at about the $140 to $142 range. Valuations are quite low on shpg and teva if they can achieve their earning targets.

Gilled is looking to do a transformative acquisition and it is very difficult for me not to wonder if perhaps Shire gets grabbed by Gilead. There are definitely many benefits there to consider for Gilead but obviously although the share price is reflecting otherwise, Shire is a well run diversified company that should do very well in the long run.

What are the odds of NVO making a move on SHPG? I suppose such a deal would face antitrust reviews, but if reports about competition in the hemophilia space are correct, maybe it would not be that big an issue. It would give NVO a huge boost in terms of product diversification, and potential for cost-cutting would be decent. With no long-term debt and a piggy bank full of cash, NVO could easily do a cash+stock deal.

SHPG TA --- A line connecting the Sep 2007 and Feb 2012 peaks extended out to today sets support at ~140. A similar line connecting price peaks in Nov 2000 and Feb 2012 sets support at 130. I'm sure the monkeys have these in sight to collect more bananas. You have until the end of the year to do your business monkeys. That includes the weekly put playing monkey who on late Friday trading rolled out his 148 strike puts to end of this week... insider perhaps?

    Another buying opportunity:
Jeff Poulton, Chief Financial Officer, said: "It has been a privilege to work for Shire and to have played a part in the exceptional growth story of such an inspirational company. It has been a difficult decision, but in departing Shire, I wanted to join a smaller organization where I can play a role in building a new company. As Shire finalizes the integration of Baxalta and focusses on paying down debt, this also presents a perfect time for me to begin this transition. I know I leave Shire well positioned to pursue its strategy and deliver value for shareholders, supported by a strong Finance team."
