The CBOE Volatility index dropped nearly 8 percent to 9.73 and was on track for its lowest close since 1993 as investors took comfort from Macron's victory, as well as from strong quarterly reports in recent weeks. Eight of the 11 major S&P sectors dipped, with the materials index down 0.8 percent and energy rising 0.5 percent on the back of higher oil prices.
Verizon Communications Inc (LSE: 0Q1S.L - news) has agreed to buy optical fiber from Corning Inc for at least $1.05 billion over the next three years as the No. 1 U.S. wireless carrier aims to improve its network infrastructure, the companies said on Tuesday. Corning (Swiss: GLW-USD.SW - news) will sell up to 12.4 million miles of optical fiber to Verizon (NYSE: VZ - news) each year from 2018 through 2020, with a minimum purchase commitment of $1.05 billion, according to the agreement.
