In late January 2018, Credit Suisse (CS) downgraded Symantec stock to “neutral” from “outperform,” which again impacted the stock. Citing Brad Zelnick, an analyst with Credit Suisse, MarketWatch wrote that the analyst sees a “meaningful risk of turbulence ahead” considering the high expectations for Symantec. Recently, Symantec has made several small and large acquisitions such as SkyCure, FireGlass, Blue Coat Systems, and LifeLock.
This trend has been a key growth factor for Symantec and its peers in the cybersecurity space. According to Symantec’s 2017 Norton Cyber Security Insights Report released last week, hackers stole approximately $172.0 billion in data from 978 million consumers in 20 countries in 2017. Symantec’s initiatives are expected to help its top line going forward.

Endpoint Protection is a sub-segment of the company’s Enterprise Security segment, in which the company has a competitive edge over its peers. In late January 2018, Gartner positioned Symantec in the Leaders quadrant of the 2018 Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms, as shown below.
The company is integrating acquisitions such as Skycure, SurfEasy, FireGlass, and Outlier Security to harness the resultant synergy. As a result, Symantec has seen a surge in company’s cross-selling opportunities. In fiscal 3Q18, Symantec saw an increase in multiproduct deals, a significant portion of which can be attributed to its integrated cyber defense platform. The chart above shows that with five acquisitions in 2017, Symantec led all acquirers.
