Target maintains higher margins because it sells better merchandise... WMT is for the lowest budget sector...

Good companies still swing this way and that as the market moves.
Target is a good company, profitable, pays a growing dividend, has a reasonable p/e, and is well managed.
Despite the hyperbole of the day (Virus, FED, inflation, fuel price, Chinese, Russians... take your pick) it is all just noise to the profitable retail sector. Go by your local Target and the parking lot is full. It is a pleasant place to be. People are shopping.
TGT may swing around but Target isn't going anyplace. They will be here making us money and what is down one day will be up on some other day. You don't make money day-trading a stock like this.

wow, down 2.5% today, under $220. No bad news reports. Good fundamentals, low P/E at 16.62. Yahoo finance rates as a buy. Lowest analyst price target 230. Reports show increased foot traffic compared to competitors. Buy recommendations from several analysts. Dividend of $0.90 per share. There is nothing I can find that says this company is failing except the falling stock price. Way oversold.

Great example of why you need patience in this market. Too many bought those initial dips in TGT. Will probably go back to 175. Good company but price was too high.

    Hello
I'm looking to buy Target for the long run. Can someone tell me what's so different to Target compared to like Walmart and other stores?

This price action is a joke and is manipulated to steal option premiums. Stock jumps and gets batted down daily. Blackrock and Vanguard own almost 20% of the company and I think are playing games with this. This is going to run 20% in 10 days at some point. That is how they play it - beat down retail until they quit and then run it quickly - and then send their minions on CNBC etc. telling retail it is a strong buy at 260 and "hitting on all cylinders".

This is what makes a market. A few analysts are setting this buy up for a big ramp prior to earnings on Feb 28. You should be buying stock for long term. Options for short term income at this level. Amazing opportunity. The internal signals coming from Minneapolis is nothing to worry about. Perhaps the best retailer in the USA. Strongest retail management team. I am so long and happy. Thanks for the dip on this one.

Stock looks attractive under 215. Caveat...The company trades publicly and has a beta of 1.01. If the market drops 5% this stock is going lower as well. So you have to believe that even if you are buying under 215 you could still see the stock move lower as the Fed raises interest rates and the majority of asset values decline or slow in appreciation. The lowest I see this stock dropping in 2022 is 180s. If you can get some there you will be lucky.

In long now, Company just raised their dividend 30% hardly a sign of a business that is struggling. best of breed after Walmart imo with only more upside.

Here is how I think about Target. Stock is undervalued under 215. Probably fairly valued 220 to 250. Overvalued above 260 given an expected slowing growth in revenue post/stay at home/COVID times. I do like the 50 billion stock buyback and will help offset slowdown in sales. Unlikely however to experience 35% move higher anytime soon like the past returns of 97% in 2019, 35% in 2020 and 32% in 2021.

Other retailers are even more overvalued. WMT, COST and AMZN are laughable.

Store in stocks are good. Merchandise is always more fashionable than WMT who is always about price and cheaper quality with an eye on opening price points. Give them credit they have become the largest grocery chain in the world but not much going on in fashion content. This is where Target excels. Trend , Fashion Content and excellent shop keeping. If you think they are not going to be up $10 -12 a share prior to earnings just watch and see. $280 anayst price target by year end 2022. Mark this post. I know this company well

The continual downward pressure makes no sense. One article here today indicates that Target sales outpaced both Walmart and Best Buy in November by at least 10%. I went to Target two days ago and was able to find everything I was looking for except for one breakfast cereal they carry so doesn't look like supply chain issues. I don't shop Target online so I don't know if any supply issues there. Who would short anymore when the odds for a reversal and rebound get better the lower the stock price falls? One thing that hurts TGT at this point is that it is still two months or more until the earnings report. Unfortunately I expect the volatility to continue until then, until we get closer to the end of January. Positive news could push the price upwards again but I'm not going to hold my breath. Still. I'm long and holding here. Look for the stock to propel towards the analysts' estimates of $280 or greater next year.
