Amazon’s latest hiring spree, Steve Cohen investing in crypto, Google fined $177 million

Yahoo Finance's Julie Hyman breaks down Tuesday’s business headlines.

Video transcript

JULIE HYMAN: Google has been fined $177 million by South Korea's antitrust regulator. The agency said Google blocked customized versions of Android in what amounted to an abuse of its dominant market position. Google has said it plans to appeal. Of course, there are a number of these kinds of investigations going on around the globe.

Amazon is hiring. The company plans to add 125,000 workers at its warehouse operations in preparation for the holiday shopping season. Although Amazon's minimum wage is $15 an hour because of increases in many regions, the average is more than $18 nationally. Amazon is also opening 100 facilities this month to deal with demand.

And billionaire investor Steve Cohen is putting money into a new cryptocurrency trading firm. That's according to "The Wall Street Journal." It's called Radkl. It'll be run by a team from GTS, which is the high-speed trading firm. Cohen, of course, the owner of the New York Mets and hedge fund Point72 Asset Management. This is one of [INAUDIBLE] investments he and his firm have made over the past several months.

And [INAUDIBLE], I said it's called Radkl. By the way, it's R-A-D-K-L. Radkl.

- Of course it is. I wonder-- I wonder how many Roomba vacuums he has, Steve Cohen, Julie. Couple probably, right?

JULIE HYMAN: Maybe. Maybe he just pays people to vacuum for him. Who knows?
