Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo set out a roadmap for easing lockdown restrictions on Friday, even as COVID-19 infections rose, with restaurants, bars, gyms and cinemas set to reopen on May 1. De Croo gave Belgians a glimpse of light at the end of a five-month period of restrictions that have only allowed schools, shops and, more recently, hairdressers to operate. Belgium will also lift a ban on non-essential foreign travel on April 18, just after school Easter holidays.

The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthi group in Yemen said it intercepted six explosive drones fired towards the kingdom on Friday, with the Houthis claiming to have launched attacks into southern Saudi Arabia since dawn. Parts of the destroyed drones fell and injured a 10-year-old boy and also a man who was driving near the Saudi city of Khamis Mushait, Saudi civil defence said. The Iran-aligned Houthis have stepped up cross-border drone and missile attacks on Saudi cities recently, mostly targeting the southern part of the country.

Workers from various industries marched across the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges in New York City on March 5 as they called for support for workers excluded from unemployment or pandemic-related benefits, local media reported.The demonstration included people working in construction, hospitality, and education, as well as yellow-cab drivers who drove over the bridge alongside people marching. The New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) said the demonstration was for undocumented workers, who have been excluded from unemployment benefits and stimulus payments during the pandemic, and said New York City’s cab drivers “stand in solidarity” with workers struggling through the pandemic.New York Communities for Change, a political activist group that posted this footage, said its members were marching “for all excluded workers, those who can’t pay rent and those who have lost work.” The group called for tax hikes for the wealthy and rent cancellation.The demonstration closed lanes on both bridges, according to reports.
