Cameron Peak Fire Turns Sky Orange in Lafayette

A reddish haze hovered over Lafayette, Colorado, on October 16 as the Cameron Peak Fire forced evacuations and road closures in the state.

“It’s almost impossible to breathe,” said Jennifer Ashe-Opie, who recorded this video. “The air inside of our house smells like you’re inside of a barbecue.”

The Cameron Peak Fire, Colorado’s largest ever recorded, is estimated to have burned over 187,500 acres since August 13. According to local officials, it is 57 percent contained as of October 17. Credit: Jennifer Ashe-Opie via Storyful
