Cargo Ship Suffers Engine Failure and Drifts in Fierce Weather Conditions

A cargo ship suffered an engine failure and was adrift in fierce weather conditions off of the Isle of Lewis on Thursday, December 14, requiring assistance from two lifeboats, an emergency tugboat and the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter.

This footage shows the ship floating in what were described as “Force 8-10 winds and a swell of up to 6-8 meters (26 feet).”

Five crew members were on board the vessel and deployed anchors while awaiting coastguard assistance.

According to a report from the BBC, the MV Fame was expected to to towed back to Stornoway Harbour on Saturday morning. Credit: UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency via Storyful
