Coastguard Rescue Climbers Stuck on 200-Foot Sea Stack

HM Coastguard rescued two climbers from the 200-foot tall Old Man of Stoer sea stack in Sutherland, Scotland, on the evening of Thursday, September 23.

The men raised the alarm when they realised they were unable to move up or down due to the severe weather conditions, with high waves “battering the stack and the tide coming in”, the Coastguard said in a statement.

Captain Will MacLeod said it was a “potentially life-threatening situation for all involved” but that they were able to return the men to dry ground safely and without injury.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency released this footage showing the crews puling the climbers up to the helicopter to safety. Credit: Maritime and Coastguard Agency via Storyful
