COVID: Second Omicron variant case identified in Minnesota

Yahoo Finance's Julie Hyman reports that a Minnesota resident tested positive for Omnicron variant.

Video transcript

JULIE HYMAN: We're getting new information on omicron and its spread across the United States. Remember, a California resident was the first reported case in the United States. Now, a person in Minnesota has followed. And New York Governor Kathy Hochul is saying that the Minnesota resident was recently in New York City. She is set to hold a press conference at 11:00 AM to talk about that and other ongoing efforts to combat the pandemic.

Remember, she reintroduced a mask-- an indoor mask advisory in New York City after getting news about the omicron variant. And it sounds like the person in Minnesota is an adult male and had been vaccinated. At the same time, the person's symptoms have resolved. So it doesn't sound like it was a severe case, but we are still getting more information on that.

But again, we are seeing this new variant already in the United States and already seeing some spread here, so that's something the market is going to continue to have to contend with. If you look at stocks right now, the NASDAQ is back in the red. We've really seen it bounce around a lot in today's session in reaction to some of these headlines and reaction to some of those large cap tech movers.
