COVID Temperature Checks Mean Long Line Ahead of March on Washington

Mandatory temperature checks meant a long line formed near the National Mall in Washington on August 28, as thousands gathered to call for an end to racial inequality and commemorate Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech.

The Washington Post said organizers expected around 50,000 people for the event, 57 years to the day since King’s famed speech at the same location during the civil rights March on Washington.

The march was announced in June by the Rev Al Sharpton in a eulogy at the funeral of George Floyd. It has been dubbed the “Commitment March: Get Your Knee Off Our Necks” in reference to Floyd’s killing in Minneapolis in May. Credit: @_mr_nate via Storyful
