Cumbre Vieja Volcano Flares Up as New Lava Flow Moves Towards the Sea

La Palma’s Cumbre Vieja volcano continued to erupt, shooting fiery lava and ash skyward on October 17.

Drone video captured by Spain’s Geological and Mining Institute shows the volcano flaring up on Sunday morning, while fresh lava flows cascade down the slope of the mountain.

A lava flow threatening the town of La Laguna was expected to reach the sea on the night of October 17, according to El Pais.
