Demonstrators Dispersed by Police in Columbus, Ohio, During Daunte Wright Protest

Dozens of demonstrators gathered in downtown Columbus, Ohio, on April 13 to protest against recent police shootings of black men, including Daunte Wright.

Local media said officers used pepper spray to disperse the crowd after they broke a lock and entered Columbus police headquarters. This video shows officers exiting the building and dispersing the crowd.

Mayor of Columbus Andrew Ginther said he supported non-violent protests over police shootings but that “violence and destruction” would not be tolerated.

Daunte Wright was shot by a police officer during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, on April 11. Police Chief Tim Gannon described the shooting as an “accidental discharge”, saying to reporters that the officer in question drew a hand gun instead of a Taser.
