Denver Zoo Welcomes Its First Greater One-Horned Rhino Calf

Denver Zoo in Colorado has welcomed its first greater one-horned rhino calf.

According to the zoo, 13-year-old Tensing, the resident female, gave birth to a female calf on Saturday morning, February 22.

The zoo said both Tensing and the calf were doing well and that the pair would be kept behind closed doors for up to eight weeks so they can bond.

Tensing became pregnant in December 2018 after 11 unsuccessful artificial insemination procedures over a four-year period.

The calf’s father is a 10-year-old named Jontu from the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, the zoo said. Credit: Denver Zoo via Storyful
