Donated Goods Stream In for Public Housing Estates Under Covid-19 Lockdown in Melbourne

Donations of dry goods, food and basic items were collected and delivered to public housing residents in Melbourne, Victoria, who were forced into a COVID-19 lockdown on July 5.

The goods were collected by nonprofit group Australian Muslim Social Services Agency, which made a call for donations around 2 pm the day after the lockdown was enforced by the Victorian Government.

Residents have received two weeks of rent relief and each household is eligible for hardship payments of up to $1500.

There were 74 new cases of coronavirus in Victoria on July 5, according to the state’s Department of Health and Human Services.

On July 6, the neighbouring state of New South Wales announced it would be closing its border with Victoria in response to the increase in cases over the previous week. Credit: amssayouthconnect via Storyful
