Drone footage shows oil spill near Taiwan island

Drone footage obtained by Reuters showed slicks of oil near the coasts and breakwaters along the island of Little Liuqiu, off the shore of Kaohsiung. The clean-up crew could also be seen using sponges to soak up the oil spill.

The oil leak occurred on Tuesday (June 22) at 2:18 a.m. (1818 GMT) and was likely caused by bad weather, the company said in a statement. CPC immediately halted oil discharge following the incident, it added.

A CPC Corp spokesperson said that they company expects to finish the oil spill clean-up by Wednesday night.
