Lights Go Off at Italian Navy Bases for Earth Hour

Earth Hour began in Australia eight years ago. Since then the event, overseen by the World Wildlife Fund, has gathered momentum to include more than 162 countries, in which people turn lights off for 60 minutes to conserve energy, and, organizers hope, cut down on planetary carbon overload. This year’s Earth Hour on March 28, began at 8:30 pm GMT. The Italian Navy posted this video showing lights turning off at its bases and ports. Credit: YouTube/Italian Navy (Marina Militare)
