Emergency Services Respond to Train Derailment in California

A cargo train derailed near the town of Ludlow in California on Wednesday, March 3, causing dozens of rail cars to crash into the surrounding desert.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF Railway) told Storyful that at around 12:20 pm local time, 44 train cars carrying mixed freight derailed.

This video uploaded by San Bernardino County Fire shows several train carriages turned on their side, as emergency workers in hazmat suits assess the scene.

BNSF Railway also said one car carrying ethanol was leaking. No injuries were reported and the cause of the derailment was under investigation. Credit: San Bernardino County Fire via Storyful
