Eruptions Continue at Cumbre Vieja Volcano on La Palma

Volcanologists in Spain reported new eruptions from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on Monday evening, September 27.

Video shared to Twitter by the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute (Involcan) shows dark smoke and glowing lava rising from the volcano, which Involcan said was experiencing “low-intensity Strombolian explosions.”

Copernicus EMS said optical imagery suggested 513 homes and 18.9 km of roads had been destroyed by September 27. Credit: Involcan via Storyful
