Evacuations in Beattyville as Several Kentucky Counties Hit by Flooding

Evacuations were underway on March 1, and a curfew in place in Beattyville, Kentucky, as several counties in the state faced severe flooding.

Drone footage captured by Andrew Bairzillia Neace shows Beattyville in Lee County submerged in water.

According to local media, most of Beattyville’s streets were flooded by water six to seven feet deep on March 1, and officials have counted six major water rescues and 25 evacuations along with the rescue of six dogs by a kayaker.

“We really had to do some serious lifesaving because they were literally walking out of houses with two to three feet of water in them,” Lee County Judge-Executive Chuck Caudill told LEX 18. Credit: Andrew Bairzillia Neace via Storyful
