Fans Celebrate in Copenhagen After Denmark Advances at Euros

Danish soccer fans celebrated outside Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium on the evening of June 21 after their team’s 4-1 win against Russia put them through to the European Championship round of 16 against heavy odds.

After losing their first two games, Denmark needed to run up the score against Russia to have any chance of advancing. With Belgium winning its game 2-0 against Finland, Denmark managed to squeak through.

The win capped an emotional group stage for the Danish team, whose talisman Christian Eriksen collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest during their opening match against Finland on June 12. Eriksen has since been released from the hospital. Credit: Jakob Kristensen via Storyful
