FDA panel endorses Moderna booster for some groups, Butterball’s turkey recall, Ex-Boeing pilot indicted on fraud

Yahoo Finance's Julie Hyman breaks down Friday’s business headlines.

Video transcript

JULIE HYMAN: Moderna's COVID booster shot has gotten the green light. In a unanimous decision, a key FDA panel recommended Moderna's booster shot to people ages 65 and older and other high risk Americans. This comes less than a month after Pfizer's third shots were authorized to the elderly adults and those at high risk. That panel recommendation is usually then adopted by the full FDA. Moderna shares a little bit higher in today's session.

A Boeing pilot involved in testing the 737 MAX jet was indicted yesterday. Mark Forkner is being charged by a federal grand jury for deceiving safety regulators about the jet, which was later involved in two deadly crashes. He has been charged with two counts of fraud and four counts of wire fraud. If convicted on all of those counts, he could face up to 100 years in prison.

And we've got a recall alert for you. Butterball is recalling over 14,000 pounds of ground turkey products. Consumers told food safety regulators that they found pieces of plastic in their turkey. The product being recalled, the 2 and 1/2 pound farm-to-family all-natural ground turkey and the 3-pounder Kroger turkey trays with an October 17 sell by date. Regulators advised consumers to not eat that ground turkey. I think that's good advice.
