Fire Crews Battle California's Flats Fire

The Flats Fire, which broke out in the Santa Rosa Mountains, California, grew to 400 acres on June 13 and was 10 percent contained.

Crews said they stopped the fire’s forward rate of spread, but “high heat, winds and rocky terrain” were presenting challenges.

Evacuations were ordered for the Pinyon Crest area on Sunday. Two homes were destroyed and a firefighter was injured, according to a report from the San Bernardino National Forest.
