Fire Crews Tackle Blaze at East London Tower Block With 'Grenfell-Like' Cladding

Firefighters in London said they were called early on May 7 to a fire burning across three floors of a 19-story apartment block near Canary Wharf.

Around 125 firefighters and 20 fire engines attended the fire at New Providence Wharf in east London.

Parts of the eighth, ninth and 10th floors were on fire, the London Fire Brigade said. Ambulance crews said they were treating “a number of people”.

Residents have been campaigning since the 2017 Grenfell Tower disaster to have ACM cladding removed from the development’s buildings. A resident who spoke to the BBC described the cladding as dangerous and “Grenfell like”. Credit: Clarice Lin via Storyful
