Firefighters Backburn Woodland to Contain Dixie Fire

Firefighters worked to contain the Dixie fire burning in Northern California as officials reported on July 28 that the blaze had reached 217,581 acres (about 340 square miles).

This footage, posted by Santa Rosa Firefighters on July 27 shows crews carrying out a backburning operation overnight in Plumas National Forest, in an attempt to redirect the flames.

Officials said the fire, which started on July 14, was 23 percent contained. The cause was still under investigation, but Pacific Gas and Electric has said that blown fuses on one of its utility poles may have sparked the fire, according to Wildfire Today.
