Flood Warnings Issued in San Francisco as Atmospheric River Brings Torrential Rain to Northern California

Northern California found itself in the midst of a powerful “atmospheric river“ on October 24, which brought heavy rainfall to the region and prompted flood warnings.

As of Sunday afternoon, over three inches of rain had fallen over the previous 24 hours in San Francisco, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). This footage, taken in San Francisco on Sunday afternoon, shows torrential rain pelting the streets.

The NWS issued flood warnings for the San Francisco area and warned people not to attempt to drive through the floods. According to local reports, the last time the Bay area experienced an atmospheric river was in January 2021, when heavy rains and strong winds hit the region. Credit: Brian O’Cuiv via Storyful
