Glass Panels Smash Onto Ground Outside Train Station During Netherlands Storm

A deadly storm brought high winds and dangerous conditions to the Netherlands on January 18. This video shows the glass roofing over a bicycle shelter outside Almelo train station in the country’s east, smashing to the ground in strong gusts.

At the start of the video, before the glass smashes, a person is seen leaning into the wind.

Winds of more than 90 mph (144 kmh) reportedly battered the Netherlands on Thursday, causing destruction across the country. A code red warning was put in place for central parts of the country, and a code orange for the rest. Authorities suspended all flights to and from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport due to the conditions.

Falling trees and debris from the storm have killed five people, three in the Netherlands and two in Germany. Credit: Dylan Appelo via Storyful
