Hail and Heavy Rains Dropped on Geelong by Severe Thunderstorm

A severe thunderstorm brought hail and heavy rain to Geelong on January 15, helping clear the air after the state was affected by smoke from bushfires.

More than 11 mm of rain was recorded in Geelong, but the Bureau of Meteorology noted the rain was patchy and said that the nearby Avalon Airport received 46 mm of rain in just 30 minutes.

Air quality in Melbourne and the state’s central and north-east regions were rated as poor by the Environmental Protection Agency on the morning on January 15.
