Haze Fills Sky Over Singapore as Government Launches Pollution Task Force

Smog and haze filled the sky over Singapore on September 18, as the government’s National Environment Agency readied a task force to “minimise and manage the impact of polluted air on the public.”

According to the Straits Times, at 6 pm on Wednesday, the PM2.5 reading for Singapore ranged between 60 micrograms per cubic metre in the island’s center and 95 in the south. That reading measures the concentration of tiny particles, less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter, that can be harmful to health, CNA reported, saying readings above 100 were considered “unhealthy.”

Some parts of Singapore saw readings of over 100 earlier that day, they said.
