Huge Storm Cloud Sweeps Over New South Wales Coast as Australia's Southeast Sees Heavy Rainfall

An “ominous” storm cloud formed over Forresters Beach, on the coast of New South Wales on July 12, during a week when Australia’s southeast was heavily affected by persistent rainfall.

This timelapse footage, shot by Jason Van Ganderen, captures an arcus cloud as it rolled across the New South Wales Central Coast region and out to sea.

Van Genderen told Storyful the timelapse was shot over 20 minutes in the late afternoon on July 12, describing the cloud as an “ominous winter storm cell” that plunged the area “below it into an eerie darkness.”

Conditions continued to be difficult in the region throughout the following days, with 9News reporting on July 15 that, “torrential rain, towering waves and wind gusts of more than 100km/h thrashed beaches,” along the New South Wales coast. Credit: Jason Van Genderen via Storyful
