Indian Air Force Rescues Stranded Villagers as Deadly Flooding Hits Uttarakhand

At least 34 people were killed and 5 were reported missing in floods that hit the north Indian state of Uttarakhand, officials told ANI on October 19.

This footage, posted on Twitter by the Indian Air Force, shows military personnel helping people from Sunder Khal in Uttarakhand onto a helicopter

Uttarakhand recorded 200 mm (7.9 inches) of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to the afternoon of October 19, the State Disaster Management Secretary said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was anguished by the loss of life during the floods.

“May the injured recover soon. Rescue operations are underway to help those affected. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being,” Modi said. Credit: Indian Air Force via Storyful
