Indian Army Works to Clear Dam Blockage as Flood Death Toll Rises

The death toll from floods in the Indian states of Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Maharashtra climbed to 225 on Tuesday, August 13, Indian media reported, while 1.2 million people in the four states were reportedly displaced.

In the southwestern state of Kerala, at least 102 people had died – the most of any state – and 33 remained missing, reports said on Wednesday.

Indian Army personnel were working on Tuesday and Wednesday to clear debris blocking up Kerala’s Chungathara Dam, as seen in this footage from the state’s defense spokesperson.
