Israel Launches Airstrikes in Gaza for Second Night

The Israeli military launched airstrikes in the Gaza Strip during the late hours of June 17 for the second night in a row, following a May ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas that ended an 11-day period of hostilities.

In a statement, the Israeli Air Force said it had attacked what it described as a “rocket launch site and military complexes” belonging to Hamas. The country’s military said that the strikes were in retaliation for the launching of incendiary balloons toward Israeli territory.

The strikes this week were the first inside Gaza since the ascension of a new Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
