The “honorary departure” typically involves the new vice president escorting the outgoing vice president, followed by the newly installed president escorting his predecessor. However, Donald Trump chose not to attend Joe Biden’s inauguration. Trump instead flew to Florida to be at his Palm Beach club, Mar-a-Lago.
