Leopard Cub Receives Blood Transfusion at Santa Barbara Zoo

An Amur leopard cub received a blood transfusion at the Santa Barbara Zoo in California after she became anemic, footage posted on October 20 shows.

The zoo said that a veterinary team noticed that the cub, called Marta, had a critically low level of red blood cells.

Marta was given a blood transfusion from her mother, Ajax, after her red-blood cell count continued to decline, the zoo said.

The cub’s condition was described as stable on October 20, with the zoo adding Marta was “active and feisty once again”.
