'Likely' Tornado Leaves One Dead and Damages Homes in Auckland Area

Extreme weather including a likely tornado left at least one person dead in the Auckland area on the morning of June 19, according to reports.

Photographs showed containers strewn about at a Port of Auckland location on Saturday morning. In a statement, the port said that one person had been killed and at least two others injured. It wasn’t immediately clear how the death occurred.

New Zealand’s Met Service said that the damage in Auckland was “likely caused by a tornado.”
