Mayor Calls for Urgent Action as New Yorkers Face Long Lines at Polling Places

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called on the city’s Board of Elections to “step up” and make immediate adjustments as New Yorkers continued to face long wait times on the third day of early voting on Monday, October 26, local media reported.

Early voting began across New York state on Saturday, October 24, and more than 193,000 voters cast their ballots in New York City by Sunday evening, the city’s Board of Elections reported.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said the board was “clearly not prepared for this kind of turnout,” and urged them to make adjustments immediately, including deploying more voting machines and expanding hours.
