Minneapolis Buildings Boarded Up Ahead of Derek Chauvin Trial Verdict

Crews boarded up buildings near the Hennepin County Courthouse in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 14, ahead of an anticipated verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin, which is expected as early as next week.

Chauvin is charged with second- and third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for around nine minutes during his arrest in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. The incident sparked worldwide anti-racism and police brutality protests.

Reports said the closing arguments in the trial could take place as early as Monday, April 19, after which the jury will be sequestered until they reach a final verdict.
