'Miracle' baby George turns one with Beirut blast

'Miracle' baby George is as old as the Beirut port blast

On August 4, 2020 his mother was in labor

when the explosion sent windows crashing onto her bed

She gave birth to George Khnaisser under torchlight

in the corridor of the destroyed hospital

MOTHER OF BABY GEORGE, EMMANUELLE LTEIF KHNAISSER, SAYING:

"It was a little difficult. For a period after the blast you feel you are still living in shock, you still don't realize what happened to you. After that, you realize it more, you become more annoyed and you don't understand what happened, but at the end of the day, you have to get up on your feet, I have my baby and I can't look weak in front of him."

Lebanon is still reeling from the aftermath of the explosion

which killed more than 200, injured thousands

and destroyed large swathes of Beirut

George’s parents say their son brings hope to people in Lebanon

FATHER OF BABY GEORGE, EDMOND KHNAISSER, SAYING:

"George was a symbol, symbol of life for people. Many took strength from him after the blast. We met people after the blast, who were themselves affected by the blast, when they heard about George, they would be happy, they would honestly forget their stories. It was nice, George gave a lot of hope to people in Lebanon."
