Motoring Journalist Prosecuted After Speeding on Dangerous Road and Posting Video on Facebook

A British journalist has been fined more than £600 and given six points on his licence after he posted a video on Facebook of himself driving an Audi R8 at nearly 100 mph on the winding Snake Pass road in Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Police said Joe Achilles filmed himself driving the sports car along the road on Saturday, November 3, 2018.

He then posted it to his Facebook account, where it was spotted by officers from Derbyshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit.

Using Road Safety Support (RSS), officers were able to work out what speed the Audi R8 was travelling.

“For a man who drives for a profession I am appalled that he seemingly has so little value for the lives of other road users," Sgt Adam Shipley said.

“The roads of the UK are not race tracks and should not be used as such. Strapping a Go Pro to the side of a car and driving in this manner – all in a bid to get viewers on social media – is quite frankly pathetic. I hope this case sends a message to others like Joe Achilles who think they can come to our county and put lives at risk," Shipley said. Credit: Derbyshire Constabulary via Storyful
